This past year, Point Light was fortunate to participate in the post production process of A Year to Life, directed by Nikki Hevesy. The film centers around three pre-teens with the logline:
A Life-altering choice is made for a pre-teen boy on the anniversary of his mother's death.
Nikki's involvement across the past decade in criminal and jurisprudence documentary research brought her to write and Co-Produce with Jahmal Holland, developing the project under Nikki's shingle, Through the Glass Productions. Not wanting to leave any spoilers on the film's storyline... it illuminates the need to positively intersect the lives of at-risk young people before they enter the juvenile detention system.
As of the writing of this post, A Year to Life has played in twenty-one film festivals across the United States and abroad in 2023, receiving multiple wins and awards, and it continues its trek into 2024, having played first at the Golden State Film Festival at the famed Chinese Theater located in Hollywood, CA. We hope to see continued blessings on the project, the cast, and the crew, who worked tirelessly through numerous challenges to make it all happen!
Point Light Pictures was honored to complete several graphics and visual effects tasks in order for A Year to Life to meet Nikki's vision, along with strong influence from Phillip Hurn, the Director of Photography. Below is a quick VFX compilation that we hope can serve as an educational tool for those interested in filmmaking and to celebrate the heart that went into the tying up the knots by everyone involved!
